Movie Review! – Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

Well folks, As i write this it’s 2:35 in the AM and i was with a bunch of my friends, and on the cuff we all went together and saw the latest Star Wars film, of which i completely forgot came out just today!

Before i go into a review, a quick story to explain my excitement and commitment to go see this film on day one.

As we were driving around in my friend Danny’s brand new Chevy Colorado Z71, we were trying to figure out what to actually go do to enjoy the Saturday night, Danny looks to me and says: “Why don’t we go to the movies? Star Wars just came out today!” Then my other buddy Mikey replied “Yeah, Right. as if we’re going to get tickets to see that show tonight on day one.”

I didn’t even bother responding, i immediately pulled out of the diner we were about to eat in and started on my way to the local theater in excitement, with the biggest smile on my face (the first gigantic and ambitious smile I’ve had in a very, very, long time.) Then everyone in the car responded to that impulse reaction of mine with an “Awwwwwwww shit! Hell yeah!”

I’ve been a Star Wars fan for about as long as I’ve been on this earth for all of my 25 years thus far, i was willing to jump through the biggest, flaming hoops to go and see this movie. Because i knew it was going to be the first, proper, modern star wars installment since Return of The Jedi, (even though Disney bought the rights to the series and are basically going to milk it. And the lack of George Lucas with J.J. Abrams in his place.)

Despite these factors, however. I will stand with the opinion after seeing this movie that it IS, in fact, the best installment since Return of The Jedi. TL;DR, it made all three of the Prequel installments look like child’s play.

So anyway, as i was on my way to the local AMC, Danny’s dad, David. Calls us, informs us that there’s no opening at that AMC.

But also informs us that he’s bought tickets already for a 10:30PM showing at the nearest United Artists, In 3-D!

I was hyperly, superly, duperly, stoked. Not only do i get to see this movie, but suddenly I’m going to see it with everyone i know in town and go on this epic Sci-Fi ride together! It was great.

Without further adieu, And while it’s late, and I am on an impulse to write this review just freshly seeing the movie and filled with so much information while i can still remember most of it, I’m not going to include many screen shot images, i just *need* to talk about this movie that bad and encourage everyone to go see it, at least once (or twice!)

Without further prolonging, Behold, my very first legitimate Movie review of…

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

Whew! Oh boy, where should i start? I need to keep this review as spoiler-free as i possibly can! no less than 100% spoiler-free! but this will be a taxing challenge, so you’ll have to bear with me and just trust what i say. Whenever i review anything, or even have an opinion on anything in the world around me, i try my very best to remain as unbiased as i possibly can.

But i do feel the need to say, granted i was overly excited to see this movie. (But who wouldn’t be? It’s Star Wars!) but if you’re like how i was for a period of time… upset by all the prequel installments (Episodes 1, 2 & 3.) i can understand why there’s a lot of people out there, especially the die-hard fans of the originals how it’s possible *not* to be excited for it in some way in the fear and worries of: “The prequels really were upsetting, they were not good additions up until Revenge of The Sith” Y’know, opinions like that.

Well, if you feel this way i am the bearer of good news, you don’t have to worry. This is hands down the best modern installment of the saga yet.

I’m honestly not a big fan of watching movies in 3-D, in general. But i couldn’t help but feel completely taken into total immersion when i seen this movie in 3-D, if you’re iffy about it don’t be, it’s not so bad. only complaint i have is all shades of color on screen are darker. mainly because the Real D 3-D glasses they issue have a lightly smoked tint.

If little stuff like that bothers you, by all means go see it normally, i know i will on my second watch if i ever take my dad to see it.

Anyway, enough about my opinions on 3-D viewing back to the movie.

Han Solo, Chewy, Princess Laya, and Luke as you all know, are back. along with C3PO, R2D2, and literally everyone else from the first three movies. Even supporting minor characters that you’ll remember and love when you come across them on screen (Don’t wanna spoil anything further.)

When it came to acting, everyone, i mean everyone, fit their roles perfectly. I admired the story of Kailo Ren, the fact that we have a Female Protagonist now. (Across Movies & Video Games alike, i adore Female Protagonists. For both obvious and deeper reasons.)

The classic Star Wars cliche’ and references are there, Narrative style, story-telling and action is on par with (and general inspiration) is taken right from the same driven directive as A New Hope.

I feel any further installments will take this similar road and get darker along the way, and finish off with the light side prevailing in the best way possible. weather the road going gets smooth or rocky.

I feel we will get two more installments at the most, Like i said, watching this movie made me feel like i was watching A New Hope in terms of how it was made, so with this, i feel the further installments (The second being like The Empire Strikes back, the third being like Return of The Jedi)

But instead of going backwards, or reminiscing, we’re finally going forward. And properly so.

This movie learned from the mistakes of the Hayden Christensen & Ewan McGregor era of Star Wars filmography. (By the way, Ewan McGregor lends his voice in a flashback scene as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Hinting we may see him do more later on.)

It will not boor you with almost two hours of dialogue consisting of either “This needs to be said to paint the picture” or “Filling with unnecessary information we already can figure out for ourselves.” (By the way i feel like they did this in episodes 1, 2 & 3 to hold the hands of people completely unfamiliar with Star Wars in general… it’s probably obvious.)

They didn’t do that here, whatever needs to be said is just said, short sweet and to the action from start to finish.

This latest addition of Star Wars was completely action-packed, as it should be in my opinion. Filled with moments in between that painted the picture of the story and what’s about to happen very, very well, while still delivering surprises around the corner without spoiling anything. (Unless, you’re actually able to pick up the hints like i did. 😉 )

I’m happy to report J.J. Abrams, and the entire cast and crew did a fantastic job in bringing the series back, in full force, holding nothing back. delivering moments that will make you nearly jump out of your seat in excitement, and even possibly churn out a tear of joy. and in other times successfully pull at your emotions just the right way.

I would say more, in greater detail, but i felt like i spoiled enough just saying Ewan McGregor makes a surprise visit, even though he just lends his voice in a short moment.

This movie is well deserving of a 10/10, and that’s what I’m giving it.

In a time of television where we are just exiting the Golden Age of Television Series, Top Gear going under, and other things. we currently live in a sad time of Film & TV. Star Wars making a comeback is exactly what we all need, and i feel like they know it.

Don’t miss out on this one, it’s very rare that we ever get movies nowadays that you just CANNOT miss out on seeing in a Movie Theater and just getting that experience. Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens is one of these films.

By all means, don’t be hesitant, i know, all of the modern additions before this were sketchy, and sometimes even a total mess of things, but The Froce Awakens learned from the hiccups and mistakes of George Lucas attempting to resuscitate a film saga from the 1970’s, but i will grant, if it wasnt for episodes 1, 2 & 3, we wouldn’t have seen this amazing addition come to fruition, and would have never been able to go forward, but finally, i am happy to admit, we’re finally going forward, in the correct manor.

Make this one a popcorn night, and may the force be with you!
